Nadi Astrology (Promises to Blow Your Mind)

Welcome back to yet another segment of our Journey of Self-Discovery.

Thus far we have discussed the Enneagram and Saturn Return, which are two ways of better understanding oneself and place in the world.  Now I would like to introduce you to something which will almost certainly, if you fully engage with it, give you pause, if not Awe.  I’m talking about Nadi Astrology, and first I would ask that you watch the following video all the way through and deeply consider what is being said.

Next, please read the following Wiki article on Nadi Astrology to get some more background:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadi_astrology

And here is one other video on the subject to ponder:

[This astrologer also has videos where he predicted that Hilary Clinton would win the Democratic nomination, not Obama, but I don’t think that necessarily takes away from what these leaves can tell you about yourself.  What he was doing was interpreting the leaves in that case, not reading them word for word.]

That’s just a little introduction to Nadi Astrology.  If you are interested, you might wantto read about my personal exploration of this subject (below).
***************************************************************************
Nadi Astrology — My Personal Nadi Reading & Reflections

When I was in Bangalore that first India trip (1997) , L. was strongly suggesting I go get a palm leaf reading. Now, like you, perhaps, I had no idea what palm leaf reading even was (like reading your palm?), and I was hesitant, but at the same time open and interested.

L. explained that thousands of years ago, in deep meditation, certain yogi sages were given the life information of souls who were to incarnate in the future. They then wrote this information on the palm leaves, and the leaves were passed down from generation to generation, with the knowledge of how to read and interpret them.

So essentially a palm leaf reading (known in India as “Nadi” or “lifestream” readings) is a soul analysis done by a highly trained person who knows how to find, read, and interpret each person’s individual leaf. You can imagine that once I understood this, being who I am (a “Depth-Seeker”), I was very excited about going and seeing if my leaf was there. But then, too, I wanted exact details — names, numbers, future events foretold, etc. Having been in India for a couple of weeks already, though, I was realizing that THAT kind of certainty was going to be somewhat hard to come by. Still, I was hopeful.

Nonetheless, first thing that happens when we arrive at the Nadi reader’s place is that it looks like he won’t have time for me today, because after all, I haven’t made an appointment. But we wait it out (my friend, at least, knows not to take “no” for an answer in India) and after an interminable wait with lots of mantras and attempts at meditation, we’re finally led into his inner chamber, which is basically just a little office.

This Nadi reader is nice, speaks English, seems somewhat cosmopolitan. He’s probably seen not a few westerners like me, after all. He first asks me some basic questions about my life, which I have no idea why he needs really, but I obligingly answer everything he asks.   Then he takes my thumb print and goes back into another room to look for my leaf. It isn’t too long before he comes back and asks me a few more questions to narrow down his search. After another trip back into his inner chamber, he comes back with my leaf. He asks me some more questions, and then proceeds to give me the reading. He suggests that first I take some pen and paper and make notes, as he would not be able to record what he says. So I do, and here’s the transcript of the notes I took from the reading:

“My Nakshatra is Citra. This is the most mystical of signs. Overcoming sexual desire is a big thing, or can be.

I was the third child. I was formed first and came last. [Didn’t understand this at first, but essentially was saying that Edward, my fraternal twin, is the youngest, the fourth.]

I have “researching potential.” I know 3 languages, Spanish one of them (this is true). I will be a writer, philosopher, and teacher. I will write a philosophy book which synthesizes psychology, Vedanta, and religion [I have yet to do this, unless “Child’s Play,” the artistic anthology I put together, is the book to which he referred.] I will do “unification work.” I will also teach philosophy.

I will be a traveler to learn. Want to meet my guru, but my guru is not alive. I will meet many masters, but find my own way. I will find the reality of knowledge and life.

I am aware that I have some blockages inside. These blockages will go when I learn these knowledges and languages.

In my last life, I was born in India, and was a teacher of non-dualistic knowledge and Vikarana [Grammar — didn’t know what it meant at the time.]

In this life, through the practices of Kundalini Yoga, I will learn all Vedanta and grammar. Patanjali’s Yoga system will open my third eye, which will “give brightness in inner life.” He also said: “Yoga will give strength for inner life.”

I was born in Israel in Jesus’ time, and had close contact with Jesus. I was witness to Jesus’ punishment at the time. I went to Nepal at bottom of Himalayas. I criticized my masters and gave away secrets to “non-permitted people.” As a result, in this lifetime I have these certain blockages. As a result, I am very careful about mistakes in this life. [In the margin, I wrote: “Is that so?” which is I think a question the Nadi reader asked me in regard to making mistakes. I answered: “Yes,” because I was becoming increasingly careful and conscious about every thought, word, and deed, and making sure that I was truly living in accordance with the wisdom I was learning.] I will also have a lot of experiences in the region of the Himalayas — I will go in this lifetime [Haven’t gone yet].

I was also born in Spain, but the land in which I was born no longer exists now.

I have a desire to live in the countryside and do research. Will live in the Southeast of North America [I was then living in the Northeast, and am now in Florida — the Southeast].

The Nadi reader then asked if I have taught? I said that I have taught in High School. He said that I will teach languages in College. [Somehow don’t see that happening now?] He later said I would do many kinds of work.

Health: Stomach is sensitive. Must eat slowly. Having a regular time of eating is best. [Haven’t fully succeeded with either of these suggestions yet.] May have an operation on stomach or throat. Pranayama will give good health for me. Also, water therapy: Drink water in the early morning, and 30 minutes prior to lunch and dinner.

Relationships: I am separated from my partner. I would marry second important girl in that year. I would find her in 19-20 months. My coming partner will be a good healer and counselor. We would have 1 child, if “both minds permit.” We would live together for many years, then marry. [Well, I was “separated” only in the sense that I was in India, and E. was in Philadelphia at the time, though it wasn’t long (19-20 months?) before we were to go our separate ways. If that’s what he was referring to, he was right on, but I did not find someone new in 19-20 months, no. My current partner is a good healer and counselor, though, that is true, but we met a good 8-9 years after the Nadi reading.]

I was told to recite a certain mantra for jnana (wisdom/Knowledge). The Nadi reader wrote it on the page in both Sanskrit and English. I was to repeat it 30 minutes each day: 10 in the morning, 10 in the evening, and 10 prior to sleep.  [I never kept up with this practice, but I was doing so many other practices…]

At the end I asked 3 questions: 1) What about meditation? He said do yoga like he said (Patanjali’s 8-limbed path), which includes meditation. 2) What about music? Do it as a hobby, I was told. 3) I told the Nadi reader that while there were a lot of accurate things, some things were wrong, such as his saying that the woman I am separated from is older than me [And we weren’t truly SEPARATED separated at the time.] He said you can read it that she is older than me in knowledge/spiritually, not years. Originally he said that she is one year older than me.”

All that for 850 rupees, which at that time was $17 or so.

Now I have to say, this Nadi reader in Bangalore did not impress me overmuch, mainly because I provided him with some information before he found my leaf, and his reading seemed too general. Later, though, I was to hear about another Nadi astrologer not too far away in the Chennai area. This guy, I was told, had the goods — his leaves (from an ancient sage named Agastya) actually do have names and other specific facts about your incarnation. A friend who had gotten his reading from this Nadi reader said that the guy read off from the leaf:

His name,

his father’s name,

his mother’s name,

his first wife’s name,

his second wife’s name,

and more.

I was blown away when my friend told me this, part of me didn’t completely believe him, but part of me wanted to go see this Nadi reader IMMEDIATELY. Now this friend is very business oriented and he said that he was going to both film this guy doing his readings, and also try to bring him to the States. Whether he succeeded in doing either of those things, I don’t know, haven’t heard a word. Here are a few YouTube videos that you can watch, though, in the meantime (see the above videos). One says that there’s actually a project to put all of the Nadi leaves onto a computer database that people can access (if they are meant to have a reading).

I showed these to a friend who recently went to Chennai to attend the Oneness University. I suggested that if he had time to go to this Nadi reader, he would not be disappointed. So he called ahead before leaving the States. At first it didn’t look like he was going to have a reading, but I guess it was meant to be because he did. And guess what? It was just like my other friend said. The Nadi reader told him a bunch of things it seemed like he could not have known otherwise (not sure if he was the same one that Dadhichi the Astrologer saw, because his Nadi reading seemed a bit different than described in the video).

Now, how did some guy from how many thousands of years ago, whose native tongue was Tamil, and who didn’t know you or I from Adam — how did he come to know all of this stuff? What kind of Time Machine did this dude have access to, really? And the answer is: There is no time, and…That’s the power of meditation — real meditation. Read the third chapter of the Yoga Sutra to see what real, disciplined yoga practice can achieve.

  1. Dear Gn Swayambhu,
I happened to write a book on Naadi Predictions – A Mind Boggling Miracle.
We the naadi lovers in India and specially from Pune, Maharashtra state had organised one day conference. For details see our website. Would like to get in touch in connection with Naadi Study, in coming times.
Would like to meet in next trip of yours of India.Waiting for your reply.

  2. Hi,
I went to a nadi astrologer in Pune, not once but four times with four different friends. The first time I went there, I was totally zapped, the second time I had my doubts, the third time I sharpened my observation and the fourth time I was convinced it was all fraud.
This nadi astrologer, named Bala, residing in Aundh, Pune, appears to have practiced the art not of astrology, but of cunning. He looks through his bunch of palm leaf and the prospect is supposed to answer just yes or no to his questions. Because people who come to him are so disturbed, they put aside their observation skill and are completely focussed on resolving their problems. By simply answering yes or no the prospect gives away so many details of their lives unknowingly. For example he asks, are you married? and you say no, he makes a mental note that you are unmarried.
His prospects get very surprised when he comes out with their name, father’s name and mother’s name. When you go to him, along with your thumb print you are also to give the first letter of your name. Then he asks you things like, does your name consist of five letters. You say either yes or no. He makes a mental note of the number of letters. Then he asks you smart questions like is there a vowel in your name and you end up giving more info about your name. Then he gives you a set of non vowel letters and asks if any of them are in your name. Suppose you say one of them , he mentally figures what your name could be, by putting the first letter of your name, the vowel, the non vowel. He may ask you similar questions about some other letters if he has not been able to figure out your name yet. To confuse the prospect he will ask similar questions about your parents name. Any body with pencil and paper in front of them would be able to figure out a name if somebody gave away so many details like what the name begins with, how many letters it consists of, how many vowels and which vowels are there, and which are the consonants that are there. No rocket science there.

About your date of birth he will ask things like were you born in the last four months of the year. Suppose you say no, he will ask ,after going through some more leaves and some more questions, were you born in the first four months. If you say no to that he figures your that you were born in the middle four months. After a series of other questions he will ask, were you born in April or June. If you say no to that he will ask were you born in May. Even for the date of birth, he will ask something like were you born between the 20th or 30th? Smart fellow. I admire his skill at remembering.

After amassing all these details and like your name, your parents name, your date of birth he picks out one leaf and reads all those detail. The prospect is totally zapped and he tells him his leaf is found at last.

Most people who come to him come with some problem or the other and to all of them he says, this is a bad patch of your life, planetary positions, you see. It is not difficult for him to figure out what your problem is because when he takes you through his battery of questions, you have let out somewhere or the other what your problem is.

To all the people who come to him he says they are born in good families. To all of them he says there is a remedy for their woes. The remedy comes by way of puja, which he can perform for you, but which comes for a fee as high as Rs 4000/- He also tells most people that somebody has done black magic on them. Poor gullible souls, they believe it all!

Unsuspecting people get duped. But the kind part about him that he gives everyone hope, good times are round the corner.

Please do not go to him if you have a problem. Go to him if you want to study how people make fools of others. Go to him if you wish to uncover his fraud.

    • This is regarding the article on “Naadi Astrology” that is on virtualpune.com.
The adress of the reader is given as,

This people are a fake. I have been there and personally got my naadi astrolgoy done. the man takes all the information from you and tells you the same back. I have tried inquiring about my past events in detail to check their autheticity, and the reply was a straight and rude ” Don’t you know it.” Stay away from such quacks.

    • I met this guy on 6/5/2011. He could not get my leaf. To say they are fraud is wrong.I have consulted many in Chennai and different Rishi’s like Agastyar and sukar. They are able to locate the correct leaf by asking questions is that they do not want to waste time. I have ttaken friends to Vaitheeswaran Koil inT.N. There they ask you to give the date of birth .This is to save time in search of the palm bundle which is indexed. What I found in this study is that the Shanthi Kandam and the andDeekshai kandam . Because the previous birth read in this and the papa/dosham or sins committed by the person in this birth is told and the homam/talisman etc told which causes Rs.5to 8 thousand. Is this the only birth in which sins committed? So how many births and sins and howmany remedies to be done? Here I am worried. Because for me 4 Nadi has given previous birth which are different and so remedies.Which one or ALL I should follow?.

  3. can you tell me an address of a Naadi reader in Bangalore, Tiruvannamalai or Chennai?

    • I am visiting India in Dec. I dont mind travelling to any part of India. Can someone please let me know the address of this Nadi Astrologer? I have never been to any and would like to have a reading done.
      Thanks

    • I saw this man on6/5/2011. He could not get my leaf. I have consulted 4 in Chennaii from 1994to 2008. They are not frauds.I am not sure about the remedies suggested and the cash part and materials to be given to them. In old days it was gold r silver coins .Can we give it now So they explain one PANAM is two and half paise ;They ask for 1008/2008/ etc panam alonwith dress for a manand lady .Sometimes acotton bed pillow etc. The previous birth and the sins following is my doubt. How many births and sins and remedies? I found out three past life and sins.I did the first remedy.Others I didnot do. Still I faced problems. How can we be sure that all my sins are gone?some sins of a birth not found out will remain there. Do not stamp the leaf as fraud. First one in Tambaram West in Chennai I foundout read out from the leaf that my younger brother was killed in Bomb attack as he was in public service He didnot ask me about my brothers and their jobs. My brother was killed in the bomb attack on RSSoffice in Chennai on 8/81993.I consulted them on 19/8/93.It is not necessary that ARishi will give all details. In my case it was read from the leaf that i was born as a twin but first come out of womb of my mother. He didnot ask or I told him about it.Later in 2008 I consulted another Nadi. Ther eit is written that I have opted for VRS and I was working in a financial institution .I didnot give my date of birth in Tamil or Christian calendar yet he gave it to me in Tamil year and month. He also said my age now .How can he calculate my age without knowing my date of birth. Agree that grtaduattion takes at 20 years but how can he say that I am 43 years thenYes. I am of the view that they may exaggerate the Deekshai Kandam amount and favours to be given to them.you can say Fleecing them as we are Middle Class. If arichman or a foreigner goes he will say pittance. If sonia Gandhi goes to them it can be seen that there is a relationship with Indi in her previous birth . We know in the first and second worlds war many Indians soldiers died in abattlefield in Egypt Africa .Their soul have taken birth andnnn

  4. Response to XYZ:

Sorry dude, the permutstions and combinations possible even with the info given by you is simply too much to just zero into the right name and datre of birth. Try it yourself. As far as I am concerned, I wen t to a Nadi Astrologer in Kanchipuram. He gave me a different date of birth and insisted that he was correct and that my official date of birth is wrong. I went back homme a month later and checked with my mother. My mother told me that the hospital officials gave a wrong date of birth. WOW. I was stunned as I was celebrating my birthday a day ahead for the first 25 years of my life. This apart, he predicted that I will completely change the direction of education and pursue higher studies abroad. All this apart from many family details and future predications came true. I was a hard core skeptic before this incident. Now I am not so sure about things we dont fully understand.

All the information he had mentioned for my father were true and even the leaf said that father would bring along the second daughter to see the astrology which was indeed true.. A copy of the tamil verses were given to us, which I was able to understand with some difficulty..

It said my father will have a kandam at 65 ys, he died when he was 66 ys..

dont think they can cook up or come up with so much info on the fly

  17. Yes I agree with you! In this case the horoscope is exactly as you said, I can’t understand why other people consider it differently. Anyway It doesn’t matter.

  18. Sir,
I have visited 3 naadi astrologers in Kolkata, past as they told are correct but future predictions are yet to come.
I am perplexed as getting the results from your website that future readins do not come true. Please enlighten.
    Thanks

Demi-gods or lower gods also finds a place in creation. Some of the services of the lower gods are easily purchased for a “joint-venture” or so to be called. The percentage of profit is agreed from the temple they purchase and has to be given to the temple failing which the results could be disastrous. It is not possible to cheat the demi-gods as the demigods are after all divine incarnations.

When the victim approaches the astrologer for help, the astrologer asks various queries – as mentioned above. The answers of these queries are actually questions posed to demigod to get the correct identity of the person. Once it is got, all other past details are easily available by the demigod. These details are only heard by the astrologer. This may sound unscientific but really is not.

Demigods are unable to accurately predict the future and hence the predictions are mostly not correct. Demigods are also used by astrologers, sooth-sayers, magicians, fraud god-men who materialise processed goods from scratch, which really is only shifting i.e, dematerializing, shifting and rematerializing.

How I came to know about it?

I have a friend who is an ardent Shiva devotee and made a small portion of his house as Shiva temple. He has been a Shiva Devotee and has been continuing for the past 25 yrs or so. But their hereditary god is a demigod. It seems the hereditary god also wanted to be revered and so he wanted a separate temple for it. HE WAS ALSO GIVEN THE PRIVILEGE of asking questions (or thinking and posing questions) to demigod and he would get the answer ABOUT PAST AND INCIDENTS.

But my friend never used this privilege for monetary gains. For those who come with problem, he just queries it and suggests solutions for their well being. He has helped me many of times – a couple of them to say – when I misplaced very important file in my office and also when my colleague created havoc for creating bad name for me in office.

When I wanted to know about the practice of Nadi Astrology I asked for his help and he let me know the actual functioning of it by querying it with demi-god.

Sage Agasthya no doubt was a great sage. But it is ridiculous to say that he wrote the names and fate of persons before 1200 yrs as if everything is destined and future generations does not have free will at all.

I just wanted to share the information. It is the wish of the readers to believe or not. If at all you believe, please share the information and prevent the cheats from taking over.

  20. Nadi Astrology.

Recently I was in a pressure from family members to visit a Nadi Astrologer.

The procedure is that one has to give the thumb impression to the astrologer and answer to queries regarding details of siblings, parents, property owned, placement of letters in names etc etc., Such details are to be given by the person but the full names are not asked or revealed.

The astrologer then says the full names of all persons and many details of the past which, generally are 100 percent correct. He also mentions some of the incidents of the past life. Later he predicts the future and proposes to do some pujas or yagna for 1 mandalam (48 days) or 2 in a far away place/temple inaccessible by the person and also gives an option or a short cut for the pooja by giving the money directly to him.

The accurate portrayal of the past generally overwhelms most persons and they happily agree to part with the money for the poojas and the costly service charges.

One may find more about Nadi Astrology by surfing the net.

This is another method to fool the person and encash his ignorance by bringing into picture the great saint Agasthya.
